Using Your Resistance Bands for Gymnastics and Conditioning

Using Your Resistance Bands for Gymnastics and Conditioning - POWERBANDS®

If you are working with a limited budget yet, you would still like to complete all your workouts and conditioning, look no further than the use of resistance bands. Besides the fact that they are affordable, they are also very practical to use.

The truth is that you do not even need to rely on heavy-duty gym equipment to develop your gymnastic skills further. You can simply use your resistance bands to do that and your conditioning as well.

Add a few simple exercises to your routine, and you'll be able to get all of your workouts done without ever even stepping foot in a gym.

Developing Olympic Movement Skills with Resistance Bands

For those serious about becoming an Olympic athlete, especially those who will be competing at the Olympic level, being able to develop the proper movement technique is essential. Olympic athletes have had to spend countless hours perfecting their skills for their sport, and developing the proper movement technique is essential for that.

Bands are a great way to get your body to move and work on technique. Although all athletes will be required to develop the proper body mechanics, some will also want to work on their performance.

Many athletes with poor technique will not be able to perform at their peak level. You will wind up seeing an increase in performance and your overall speed as well.

Gymnastics Exercises Using Resistance Bands

Strength, mobility, and balance are essential for gymnasts, and resistance bands are a great way to get started. Here are a few simple exercises you can do using your resistance bands.

1. Hip Bridge

This is a great exercise for developing mobility throughout your hips, especially your glutes.

  • Begin by wrapping a resistance band around your legs and hold the ends in each hand.
  • Lie on your back and lift your hips up and hold the position.
  • While you are holding this position, you can also lift your heels up off the ground.
  • Simply hold the position and then release.
  • Repeat ten times.

2. Shoulder Bridge

This is another great exercise for your glutes. It is also a great exercise for your lower back.

  • Begin by wrapping a resistance band around your feet and hold the ends in each hand.
  • Lie on your back and lift your hips up and hold.
  • While you are holding the position, lift one arm and the opposite leg, like you are trying to make an "X" with your body.
  • Repeat ten times.

3. Plank

This exercise is one of the best for the core and for your entire body. It is also wonderful for developing balance, strength, and stability.

  • Begin by wrapping a resistance band around each hand and holding each hand's ends.
  • Get into a plank position (on your hands and toes.)
  • Squeeze your glutes and hold the position.
  • Move from side to side to increase the difficulty.
  • Repeat ten times.

4. Chest Press

If you are looking to strengthen your chest and shoulders, this is the exercise for you.

  • Begin by wrapping a resistance band around your feet and hold the ends in each hand.
  • Stand and pull the band down so that it is below your feet.
  • Press the band up and hold.
  • Repeat ten to twelve times.

You will want to use caution with this exercise, especially if you have shoulder issues. If you can't press the band up without moving your arms, you may want to skip this exercise.

You can also use a chair or a wall to increase the difficulty. You will have to bear against the chair or wall, which will make the exercise even more difficult.

Conclusion

If you have a limited budget, resistance bands can be a great way to add a few extra workouts to your routine. They are affordable, easy to store, and easy to carry around.

They are also a great way for you to work on your agility, mobility, and balance, as well as strength. Using resistance bands for gymnastics conditioning is sure to get you into the best shape of your life!

The top top band in bands

A good strong band that goes the distance, doesn't lose its stretch, and, from experience, will last the long haul.
