When you think strength training equipment, free weights, and resistance bands are probably two of the first things that come to mind. They're both pretty straightforward to use, and they both come with a pretty low price tag. The big difference comes in how they'll affect your muscles and body. In the resistance band vs. weights debate, which one wins?

The Advantages of Using Resistance Bands

If you're short on time, weight is a significant advantage you get when using resistance bands. If you're back at home, you can easily take resistance bands with you in a bag or pack wherever you go. Resistance bands are also cheap, so it's easy to buy more as you need them.

Strength training with resistance bands is better than weight training with no equipment. Many people who use resistance bands find it easier to lose weight, gain definition, and build muscle. Resistance bands can increase your lean muscle mass while reducing your body fat - a pretty good combo.

Resistance bands are also great for people who have limited mobility, people who have injuries that prevent them from weight training regularly, or people who have disabilities that prevent them from doing weight training at all. In other words, resistance bands are perfect for just about everyone.

The Advantages of Using Free Weights

You get a more full-body workout from your resistance training when it comes to free weights. Unlike resistance bands, where you need to change the weights depending on how much resistance you want to use, you can use the same weights for all your exercises.

Free weights are also great for building strength and muscle. The weights you use will often be a little heavier than you can lift with resistance bands, which can add to your workout.

Free weights are also great if you're on a budget. While you can buy resistance bands or resistance cables and connect them to your weights, one set of free weights will always be lighter than resistance bands.

Choosing Between the Two

Resistance bands are great if you're travelling or on the go. You can do resistance training on a flight, in a hotel room, or on the beach. They're also great if you want to do some strength training in the privacy of your own home or if you don't want people to see you using weights.

Free weights and strength training equipment is excellent if you want a full-body workout. You can lift weights and do strengthening exercises for your whole body.

If you're just starting with resistance training, look at your schedule and determine which one works for you. If you have a lot of time at night and in the morning, resistance bands would be a great choice. If you have more time in the afternoon, you can try out free weights without having to worry about packing anything up and taking it with you.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a way to turn your workout up a notch, resistance bands are a great tool to have in your workout arsenal. Resistance bands require a bit more time and effort to use, but they can still work for anybody, no matter how much time you have to work out.
