3 Common Resistance Bands Mistakes to Avoid Them Snapping Mid Stretch

3 Common Resistance Bands Mistakes to Avoid Them Snapping Mid Stretch - POWERBANDS®

Resistance bands have been a buzzword that has been spreading like wildfire in the fitness world as they offer benefits that can be reaped either in the gym, at the park, or in the comfort of one's own home.

The resistance bands come in many different sizes and strengths, wherein the lower the resistance the thicker the band, the higher the resistance the thinner the band.

They are inexpensive and great for an at-home workout because you can set them up anywhere and use them for various exercises. They can also be a great travel tool because they're lightweight and can be packed easily, making resistance bands one of the best tools to have for your exercise arsenals.

Although resistance bands get a lot of hype, they are only effective if used properly. Many people are using bands without any knowledge or proper instruction, so they get injured as the resistance bands snap. That is why it is important that you understand how to use a resistance band, to avoid wasting time, money, and risking injury.

Shedding Light on the Common Resistance Band Mistakes that can Cause Them to Snap

1. Sawing

Sawing is the act of pulling the bands apart to move the exercise from one side of the body to the other. Sawing is a basic movement that is performed with a lot of resistance training movements. However, because resistance bands are so much longer than weight training equipment, they are more prone to snapping while being sawed.

To avoid slicing the bands in half, simply overlap the band as the loop will create a knot that prevents the sawing motion, allowing you to perform your side-to-side pulling exercises.

2. Anchoring Resistance Bands Around Hard Objects

The resistance bands have a loop or handle in the middle. This loop or handle is what you grab onto when you are performing an exercise. If you anchor the bands around hard objects like a door or a chair, the tension is uneven, and the bands are not going to put an equal amount of tension on both sides of the band. This will ultimately cause the bands to snap in the middle of your exercise.

Not to mention, Placing the bands around a very hard object can cause them to snap, as the bands have to bend in a certain way to accommodate the harder object. If the objects are not soft enough to provide enough give, the bands can easily snap.

To avoid breaking your resistance bands, it's best to invest in a special band anchor that evenly distributes tension throughout the bands and does not wear down the material.

3. Overstretching the Bands

Resistance bands are designed to give you the maximum amount of resistance at the joints of your body. The stronger you want the resistance to be, the further you pull the bands apart. If you stretch the bands too far, it may cause the bands to snap.

Resistance bands should never be stretched so much that they are pulled apart. This can cause the bands to snap, which can cause injury, as you could be holding the band when it snaps. This is why it is extremely important to always check the manufacturer's recommendation for the length of the bands against your height.

The Bottom Line: Making the Most of Your Resistance Bands and Avoiding Future Injuries

Just like any other workout tool, resistance bands require a certain level of care and attention. If you want to be safe, and you want to make the most out of your resistance bands, make sure that you pick a pair of bands that are the right size for you, so you can use them properly for your workouts.
